COURT, is a short i have wanted to make for a while now, i have missed the chance to work on the 48 hour film challenge the last few years so i thought why wait and just do it.

So i wanted to make a short film that i could shoot in a day (a very long day) and it would give me the chance to shoot a short on the RED CAM. I am working on a series of projects with Filmmaker Krish Shrikumar who is also shooting COURT, I am also working with Richard Morgan who edited the behind the scenes on A Spanking in Paradise, we are hoping to document the shoot through short behind the scenes clips. Matt Brown who i have worked with on many projects will be camera assisting on the shoot too.

COURT is written by Josh Makaruk and the script is a short comedy about two men with contrasting outlooks on life as they play a game of one on one basketball on their lunch break.

Myself and Krish took the RED CAM and we shot test footage at an outdoor court in Edinburgh to test light/ set ups on the RED. We got some excellent results and i cant wait to get shooting on it.

COURT will be shot in late July and will be out there very soon!

I have taken the short story and developed it further by toning down the experimental nature of “five steps” and make The Happiest Man in Town more narrative driven.

I really wanted to make the city of Edinburgh a character in this and managed to do some pretty interesting aerial shots. I wanted to show Edinburgh from above and from angles never seen before, which is getting increasingly difficult as everyone is making great films depicting the city in very different ways but i haven’t seen Edinburgh from that viewpoint yet….i dont think!!!

The film is in production (hoping to be completed by August) but i have shot some footage and created a trailer (link below) to get interest and crew members involved. I am gathering the crew at the minute but like “Five steps” It has a budget of about 30p and a packet of crisps. So i have had to blag the aerial shots and beg crew members to be involved. I got to work on this before i edited the film. Great cast and crew! Edited by Richard Morgan, Camera by Hadley Parsons and Music by Rossco Galloway!

I have just completed editing my First Feature film for Director Wayne Thallon, it was an amazing experience that i had a lot of fun on. We cut the film on FCP at Running productions offices in Leith.

The film was selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2010! It screened in the Under the Radar section and sold out in the first few days!

The film was also selected for the Best of the Fest section at the end of the festival.

I also Directed the behind the scenes for the film too, good times.

Here is the lowdown on the film-

I recently edited a series of short films for Documentary filmmaker Mike Day about the Sustainability Institute in South Africa and its connection to a social enterprise cinema, the Lexi in Kensal Rise, London. The Lexi donates 100% of its profits to fund projects in Lynedoch, including a film school. The films will be screened at the Lexi Cinema before their features.
