So I went to Encounters short film festival and had a great time. My short ‘Five minutes to five steps’ was screening in the best of Scottish shorts section and I was really chuffed it was selected with the other films.

The films that were screened were all really good and looked amazing.
A couple that spring to mind were ‘Eyes on the Street’, directed by David Newbigging, ‘Homecoming’, directed by Zak Hanif, ‘Archive of dreams’, directed by Tomas Sheridan and ‘Night School’, directed by Ben Soper .
I really enjoyed these films and when Scottish screen put a DVD of the showcase its definitely worth a look!

Five Steps
I just want to thank Scottish Screen for selecting ‘Five Steps’ for Encounters. It was a great experience. Even though I was terrified due to the larger budgets some of the other films had…I think it did okay…well it freaked out a few people which was a bonus!
I did make a point of going to see some of the UK film council screenings (Digital Generation 1 & 2) and if you haven’t seen ‘Pop Art’, directed by Amanda Boyle or ‘Rip and the Preacher’, directed by Michael Lennox you have to check them out. They have to be two of the best short films I have seen this year.
Anyways, Encounters rocked and so did the ‘Eyes on the Street’ boys.
Nice one Maas.

Glad you enjoyed ‘Rip…’. I was the edgey man with the crazy eyes, both in the film and at the screening - the fact that it was a ‘world premiere’ for us made it quite a stressful experience. Encounters was fantastic though - I’m definitely going to go back some time soon. Sorry I didn’t get to see your film, but I’ll try to get my hands on the DVD and let you know what I think.
In case you’re wondering how I found you, I have a Google Alert set up to tell me when anything appears online about the film, so I’ll know if it gets accepted into any of the festivals it’s been entered into. It was lovely to accidentally read a post from someone who had seen it in Bristol (particularly as I spent the entire time with my hands over my face)…

@ Jonathan - Congrats on the film - I watched the DVD Dave brought back and this was definately one of the standout shorts - intense!
Really good stuff…
